Unisa Jan/Feb Online Examination Rules 2025

Students must familiarize themselves with the online examination rules before beginning their exams. It is also recommended that they review their module arrangements for summative assessments not listed on the official examination timetable. Examination sessions will start promptly at the times indicated on the final examination timetable, and students are required to adhere strictly to these times.

Students are encouraged to complete the course “Basic Skills for Online Exams” and take the mock assessment “Course: ADOVH001: Mock Exams” available on Unisa’s website.

For file upload/take-home examinations:

  • Answer scripts must be uploaded as a single PDF file on the official myExams platform. Scripts must not be password-protected or uploaded as “read-only” files. Only one submission per student will be marked, with priority given to scripts submitted via the myExams platform.
  • Emailed scripts will not be accepted.
  • Students should preview their submissions to ensure legibility and confirm the correct file has been uploaded.
Resubmissions are allowed only within the designated submission period. Submissions after the exam’s closing time will not be accepted.
  • Uncollated answer scripts or those with incorrect file formats will not be considered.
  • Incorrectly uploaded files (e.g., uploading the exam question paper instead of the answer script) will not be marked, and no resubmission opportunity will be provided.
  • Unisa uses an automated system to prioritize and select scripts for marking. Incorrect submissions on the official platform will result in a score of 0%, regardless of correct submissions on other platforms.
  • Marks awarded for incomplete or illegible submissions will be final, with no opportunity for resubmission.
  • Only the last answer file uploaded within the submission period will be marked.
  • Submissions will only be accepted from registered student accounts.
  • Students who do not use the required invigilation or proctoring tools will have their marks withheld. Exiting or minimizing the
  • Invigilator App for a total of 10 minutes during the exam will be considered a violation of Unisa’s examination rules, leading to withheld marks. For exams using the IRIS invigilation system, IRIS must record the entire exam session until the script is submitted.
  • For invigilated assessments, students must activate the QR code available 15 minutes before and up to 30 minutes after the exam’s official start time. Failure to do so within the 45-minute window will result in withheld marks.
  • Students should complete their exams by the scheduled end time and have 10 minutes to upload their scripts on the Invigilator App.
  • After this period, the app becomes non-responsive, and students must submit their scripts via the myExams platform.
  • Students finishing their assessment early must confirm completion by clicking the “finish assessment” button on the Invigilator App.
  • Failure to do so will flag them as “Out of App” for the remainder of the assessment, invoking rule 12.
  • Invigilator results must be uploaded within 48 hours of completing the exam session. Failure to do so will result in withheld marks.
  • Students must complete the online declaration of their work when submitting their exam scripts. Dishonest conduct during exams will lead to disciplinary action. Communication with others or using instant messaging services (except for technical assistance via official channels) is strictly prohibited. Plagiarism, including the use of AI software or online sources, will result in disciplinary proceedings.
  • Certain honours and postgraduate assessments requiring Turnitin software must be submitted as typed responses only. Handwritten or scanned scripts will not be accepted. Students who do not comply with Turnitin requirements or fail to accept the End User License Agreement (EULA) will have their marks withheld.
  • Listening to audio or using audio-to-text software during the exam is prohibited unless related to a declared assistive device. Violations will result in withheld marks.
  • Students with disabilities or who are incarcerated are exempt from using proctoring tools, provided they have declared their status with supporting documentation at registration or 7 days before the exam.
  • Students negatively impacted by exam scheduling on religious/holy days must apply for alternative arrangements. Their religious organization must submit a letter directly to Unisa at least 7 days before the exam.
  • Students have 30 minutes after the official exam time to submit their answer scripts. Technical issues must be reported immediately to the SCSC or their College exam support centre within this period. Late submissions will not be marked, and only communication from a myLife account will be considered.
  • Non-adherence to submission processes will not qualify students for special concessions or future assessments.
  • Issues beyond Unisa’s control, such as personal network problems, load shedding, or technical failures, will require postgraduate students to apply for an aegrotat with supporting evidence within ten days. Undergraduate students experiencing these issues during their second exam opportunity must re-register for the affected module.
