UNisa Chattered Accountant courses

SAICA-endorsed qualifications offered at Unisa are:

  • Bachelor of Accounting Sciences in Financial Accounting (98302); followed by
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting Sciences (98231) (first year of the two-year CTA programme); followed by
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Accounting Sciences (98255) (serving as the second year of the two-year CTA programme, with direct entry to students qualifying for the one-year CTA programme [refer to www.unisa.ac.za/cas/cta].

All five modules linked to this qualification must be completed in one academic year to thereby meet the admission requirements of SAICA’s first professional examination. The College of Accounting Sciences also offers a bridging diploma (Advanced Diploma in Accounting Sciences [98320 – Stream 1 / CTA]) for candidates who have not completed a SAICA-endorsed BCom degree, and who wish to enter the CTA programme.

Admission Requirements To Study Accounting Science At Unisa

Your admission to UNISA depends on meeting the specific requirements for your chosen qualification. You must have one of the following:

  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with degree endorsement, including at least 50% in the language of teaching and learning and either 50% in Mathematics or 60% in Mathematical Literacy.
  • A Senior Certificate (SC) with matriculation exemption (or eligibility for exemption from the Matriculation Board), including at least a D symbol on Higher Grade (HG) or a C symbol on Standard Grade (SG) in the language of teaching and learning, and at least a D symbol on HG or a C symbol on SG in Mathematics.
  • A Higher Certificate in Accounting Sciences.
  • An appropriate Higher Certificate in Economic and Management Sciences.
  • An Advanced Certificate in Accounting Sciences.
  • A Diploma in Accounting or Accounting Sciences.

If you do not meet these admission requirements, consider applying for a qualification at a lower NQF level that aligns with your qualifications and meets the necessary statutory and additional requirements.

All applicants starting a new qualification must upload all the required documents, which generally consist of the following:

  • Copy of your official tertiary academic record(s)
  • Copy of your marriage certificate or divorce decree (if applicable)
  • Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans
  • Copy of your school qualifications (Senior Certificate and National Senior Certificate)
  • Copy of your ID document (RSA applicants) or Passport ID (international applicants)
