NO. Studying at Unisa is not free in the 2025 academic year, however, the online application for admission at Unisa is open to undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications. Unisa will assess your application according to the academic admission requirements of your qualification(s) of choice and the final mark obtained for your major subjects at the third-year undergraduate level. If you do not meet these requirements, your application will be rejected. You will be provided with the reason why your application was rejected and/or a way forward.
It has been a huge concern for many, in wanting to know whether one can study at Unisa for free. Applicants applying to study at Unisa for the 2025 academic year are required to pay a non-refundable application fee to accompany their applications. Remember that this fee is not refundable so should you decide not to study at Unisa or maybe you did not meet the university’s admission requirements, it cannot be paid back.
Unisa is an educational institution which is been run by funds, therefore, applicants are to pay their application fees, registration fees and other required fees to the university in the 2025 academic year. However, all families are not the same in monetary aspects, so other not from the University denying anyone of education, there are bursary schemes and agencies that provide students with bursaries, loans and scholarships to well-deserved students. Application Fee At Unisa 2025
The application fee is non-refundable even if you decide not to study through Unisa or do not qualify for admission to Unisa.
Unisa does not accept cash or cheques at any of its offices however, application fee payment must be made to accompany the online applications. Applications without an application fee may not be considered for the 2025 academic year.

Unisa’s study fees are generally lower than other higher education institutions, but studying is still a significant investment either way. Unisa fees differ depending on your qualification, your number of modules, and so on, but basically, they include prescribed student fees (including registration fees), miscellaneous fees and fees for additional study material. The cost depends on the qualification, obviously, as well as the number of modules you choose.
The average student registers for between 4 to 6 modules per year at a cost of between R1 815,00 and R7 550,00 per module (these amounts are subject to change). The module costs do not include your prescribed books.
