UNISA Criminology Admission Requirements 2025
To study Criminology at the University of South Africa 2025-2026 academic year, the following admission requirements must be met:
Undergraduate Qualification:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a degree endorsement and at least 50% in the language of instruction,
- A Senior Certificate (SC) with matriculation exemption or qualification for exemption from the Matriculation Board, with at least a D symbol on Higher Grade (HG) or a C symbol on Standard Grade (SG) in the language of instruction,
- A Diploma,
- A Higher Certificate.
Applicants who do not meet these criteria should consider applying for a Diploma or Higher Certificate for which they meet the statutory and additional requirements.
Honours degrees & postgraduate diplomas Qualification
- An appropriate NQF 7 qualification from an accredited provider of higher education with a minimum of 60% for the major(s).
Master’s & doctoral degrees Qualification
Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications:
- An appropriate bachelor’s honours degree,
- An appropriate postgraduate diploma,
- A 480-credit bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 96 credits at NQF Level 8.
- Candidates who have not completed a research methodology module may be required to take such a module at NQF Level 8 for Non-Degree Purposes before registering for the dissertation.
- All students with foreign qualifications, including those from African countries, must have their qualifications evaluated by SAQA (www.saqa.org.za).
Additionally, applicants must submit a transcript or academic record and a document outlining their intended research. Candidates may also apply for admission via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Selection will be based on the suitability and viability of the proposed research, adequate supervisory capacity and research expertise within the discipline or department, and adherence to Unisa’s policies on equality and diversity.

UNISA Criminology Application Fee 2025-2026
Pay the non-refundable online application fee of R140.00 once you have received your Unisa student number.
Please note:
- The application fee is non-refundable, even if you decide not to study at Unisa or do not qualify for admission.
- Use both your Unisa student number and the application fee reference number (e.g., STUDENT NUMBER 5370810030) for the payment.
- Send your proof of payment to susdepid@unisa.ac.za.
- For Unisa’s payment methods and banking details, visit www.unisa.ac.za/paymentinfo. International students should use the Flywire payment option.
- Obtaining a student number does not constitute an admission application. After receiving your student number, you must complete the online application for admission and upload the required supporting documents.
Required Documents To Apply Online For Criminology At UNISA 2025-2026
Applicants who want to apply to start a new qualification at UNISA should upload all the required supporting documents below:
- A copy of your ID (RSA Applicants) and Passport ID (International Applicants)
- A copy of your School Certificate, i.e. Senior Certificate / National Senior Certificate.
- Provide a Sworn translation of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans
- A copy of your Marriage Certificate or divorce decree if applicable
- Your official tertiary academic records are necessary
How To Apply Online For Criminology At UNISA 2025-2026
Follow the steps below to apply online at the University of South Africa for the 2025-2026 academic year;
- Go to UNISA Online Application portal website at www.unisa.ac.za
- At the top menu of the page, go to the “Admission” tab
- Click on the “Apply for Admission” link. A page will open for you, carefully read the information you see on the screen.
- Then, Choose the qualification level in which you want to apply
- Another page will open for you again, read the information and click “View the Process“
- Read the information message, and make sure you qualify for the minimum entry requirements
- Proceed to ODL and UNISA, answer the questions and click “YES” if you have completed a qualification through UNISA distance learning.
- Click on “YES” if you are certain about your career.
- You then select your qualification level and continue to the next step
- Read the information and click on “CLICK HERE to apply online”
- Proceed to complete the application form.
