What Percentage Mark Is A Distinction At UNISA?

Should a student obtains a higher mark in a written examination at Unisa, the grade given to him or her is termed as distinction. When you receive a distinction grade, it is equivalent to an A or A+. Before a student will be awarded a distinction grade at Unisa, he/she is expected to obtain a higher grade consistently ( All A’s) in almost all modules and also show extra commitment, hard work and dedication which is been recognised by the authorities of the University.

A Unisa, if a student does not achieve a minimum mark of 40% in the summative assessment, his or her year mark will not be taken into account for the purpose of calculating the final examination mark. The predicate “with distinction” in a module will be recorded on the Academic Record and the Advance Statement of Results when a student achieves a final examination mark of 75%.

Modules passed with distinction are not reflected on the certificate. However, if a qualification has been obtained with distinction, this fact will be reflected on both the Advance Statement of results and the certificate

When Would A Student Receive Distinction At Unisa

A student at Unisa will only  be awarded a distinction in the qualification should he or she has:

  • passed all modules for the qualification at Unisa; and
  • passed all final level modules on the first attempt; and
  •  attained an overall average of 75% in the qualification.

 

How Many Modules Should A Student Pass At Unisa For 2023?

The minimum number of modules: You need to pass a minimum of 36 credits in your first year of study and then 48 credits in your second and further years of study.

 

Unisa Distinction Percentage Chart

Unisa follows a model based on the British system. thus, at the University of Cape Town and the University of South Africa (UNISA), the percentages are calibrated as follows: a 1st class pass is given for 75% and above, a second (division one) for 70 – 74%, a second (division two) for 60%-69%, and a third for 50 – 59%. Any lower than 40% is a failure. The University of the Witwatersrand considers an A to be 75% and above. Modules Per Semester Unisa 2023
