University BA Law Degree, or Bachelor of Arts in Law, is an undergraduate program that provides students with a foundational understanding of legal principles and systems. Unisa BA Law Degree provides a foundational understanding of legal principles within a broader interdisciplinary context, combining core legal subjects with courses from the arts and humanities, and is ideal for those interested in a well-rounded exploration of law and related fields.
The degree consists of 40 modules: 37 compulsory and 3 optional. To complete the qualification, students must meet the 480-credit requirement across these modules, with a minimum duration of 4 years. Students who have completed phased-out modules will retain their credits and are not required to pass the replacement modules.
However, it is important to note that phased-out modules must have been passed specifically for this qualification and may not be equivalent to replacement modules. Students must also consider the implications of prerequisites when registering.

UNISA Law Degree Application Date 2025-2026
The online application portal for Unisa 2025-2026 opens on the following dates;
- Undergraduate Applications for admission to undergraduate qualifications for the 2025 academic year will be open from 21 August to 11 October 2024.
- Applications for admission to honours degrees and postgraduate diplomas for the 2025 academic year are to be open from 21 August to 11 October 2024.
- Applications for admission to master’s and doctoral degrees for the 2025 academic year are to be open from 2 September to 22 November 2024 (some exceptions apply).
- Application and registration for Unisa’s Short Learning Programmes are open from 14 May to 19 July 2024.
Admission Requirements For UNISA BA Law Degree 2025
Your admission to Unisa depends on meeting the specific requirements for your chosen qualification. You can qualify through:
- A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a Degree endorsement and at least 50% in the language of teaching and learning, or
- A Senior Certificate (SC) with matriculation exemption, or an exemption from the Matriculation Board with at least a D symbol on HG or a C symbol on SG in the language of teaching and learning, or
- A Higher Certificate in Law or Criminal Justice from a public or private institution registered with the DHET, with an average of at least 60%, or
- A 360-credit Diploma in Law or a related field at NQF level 6 from a public or private institution registered with the DHET, or
- A B Iuris, B Proc, B Com in Law, or BA Law degree from a public or private institution registered with the DHET.
NB: If you do not meet these requirements, you might consider applying for a Diploma or Higher Certificate for which you fulfil the statutory and additional criteria.

UNISA BA Law Degree Application Fee
Pay the application fee after receiving your student number:
- Fee Amount: R140 for online applications.
- Reference: Use your 8-digit student number from Unisa along with the application fee reference number (e.g., YOUR 8-DIGIT STUDENT NUMBER 5370810030).
- Proof of Payment: Email proof of payment to susdepid@unisa.ac.za.
- Payment Details: Visit www.unisa.ac.za/paymentinfo for banking details and payment information.
Please note that this application fee is non-refundable, regardless of whether you decide not to study at Unisa, do not qualify for admission, or cannot be offered a space due to limited availability.
Required Documents To Apply for UNISA BA Law Degree 2025-2026
Before submitting an online application form for 2025, you need to have the following supporting documents:
- Provide a copy of your school qualifications like Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate
- Copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable)
- A copy of your ID document (RSA students) or ID/passport (international students)
- You must provide a Copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable)
- Your Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans.
How To Apply At Unisa Law Degree 2025-2026
Follow the steps below to apply online at the University of South Africa for the 2025-2026 academic year;
- Go to UNISA Online Application portal website at www.unisa.ac.za
- At the top menu of the page, go to the “Admission” tab
- Click on the “Apply for Admission” link. A page will open for you, carefully read the information you see on the screen.
- Then, Choose the qualification level in which you want to apply
- Another page will open for you again, read the information and click “View the Process“
- Read the information message, and make sure you qualify for the minimum entry requirements
- Proceed to ODL and UNISA, answer the questions and click “YES” if you have completed a qualification through UNISA distance learning.
- Click on “YES” if you are certain about your career.
- You then select your qualification level and continue to the next step
- Read the information and click on “CLICK HERE to apply online”
- Proceed to complete the application form.
