Failure to upload certified documents will deny your application being processed.

Application Date For First-Time Applicants At Unisa 2025

First-time applicants applying to the University of South Africa (UNISA) can begin their application process because the application window is currently open. The application date for Unisa varies depending on the chosen qualification. Below are the  application dates for the various qualifications as scheduled by the university:

 Unisa Undergraduate qualifications Application date 2025 :

  • Applications for admission to undergraduate qualifications for the 2025 academic year will be open from 21 September to 11 October 2024.

 Unisa Honours degrees & postgraduate diplomas Application Open date 2025:

  • Applications for admission to honours degrees and postgraduate diplomas for the 2025 academic year will be open from 21 September to 11 October 2024.

 Unisa Master’s & doctoral qualifications Application  Open date 2025:

  • Applications for admission to master’s and doctoral qualifications for the 2025 academic year will be open from 2 September to 22 November 2024 (some exceptions apply).

 Unisa Short Learning Programmes Application  Open Date 2025:

  • Application and registration for Unisa’s Short Learning Programmes are open from 14 May to 19 July 2024.

Note: All applications for admission must be submitted during the prescribed application period.

Who Is Eligible To Apply For Unisa 2025

Everyone wanting to start a new qualification must apply for admission. This includes

  • If you are completing a higher certificate, you must apply for admission if you want to continue with further undergraduate studies.
  • You must re-apply for admission if you previously applied for admission and were offered a space, but did not accept the offer and/or did not register for any reason.
  • Everyone planning to enrol for classes at a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college under the Unisa-TVET agreement must apply for admission.

Application Fees For First-Time Unisa Applicant 2025

  • R140 for online applications
  • Use the student number you receive from Unisa AND the application fee reference number (ie YOUR STUDENT NUMBER 5370810030)

    ** Remember to save your e-mail address and password.
    ** It is very important that you check your e-mails regularly for communication from Unisa about your application.

Required Documents To Apply For Unisa 2025

The following documents are required to apply online for the first time applicant for Unisa 2025;

  • Copy of your school qualifications (eg Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate)
  • Copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable) (internet copies will not be accepted)
  • Copy of your ID document (RSA students) or ID/passport (international students)
  • Copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable)
  • Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans

NB: Only upload the required documents as individual files and not a complete set of documents as one file. Please ensure that the documents and images you upload are clear.

  • Only black and white documents may be submitted.

Application Process For Unisa First-Time Applicants 2025

  • You may apply for a maximum of two qualifications, ranked in order of preference (although you may only register for one should both of your qualifications be successful).
  • Unisa will inform you of the outcome of your application. If successful, Unisa will indicate for which qualification you have been accepted and will offer you a space for the period for which you have applied (eg semester 1).
  • You must accept or decline Unisa’s offer within the prescribed period. If you miss this deadline, Unisa will withdraw the offer and give your space to another applicant.
  • First-time applicants to Unisa will be required to complete the First-Year Experience MOOC (massive open online course) before being able to accept Unisa’s offer.
  • You may only accept one offer. This means that when you accept an offer for one qualification (irrespective of whether it is your first or second qualification of choice), the other offer will automatically fall away.
  • If you accept Unisa’s offer, you must register for the period for which you have been granted admission. Should you not register for the relevant semester of study, you must re-apply for admission during the next application period.
