Apply for UNISA Student Number 2025: How to Apply for a UNISA Student Number for 2025

The University of South Africa (UNISA) Online Application for the 2025 academic year is open for all available qualifications at the university. Therefore, an applicant who does not have a UNISA student number and wants to study through UNISA must apply for a student number otherwise he/she will not be able to apply for Admission to the 2025-2026 academic year.

A UNISA student number is a unique identifier assigned to students at the University of South Africa (UNISA). It is used for various administrative tasks such as registration, course management, and accessing student services. This number also facilitates communication with the university and allows you to access academic records and support resources. Who Qualifies To Apply For Unisa Student Number 2025?

If you have never pursued a formal qualification at UNISA, you need to apply for a UNISA student number.  Note that student numbers issued for short learning programmes are not valid for formal qualifications, and your formal UNISA student number will be your permanent one. If you are applying for a qualification at the Graduate School of Business Leadership (GSBL) and have not previously studied at UNISA towards a formal qualification, you must apply for a UNISA student number.

Similarly, if you are applying for admission to a selection degree and have not studied formally at UNISA before, you will need to obtain a student number. Without a formal UNISA student number, you will be unable to register for the 2025 academic year if selected for admission.

Remember, applying for a UNISA student number does not equate to applying for admission to a qualification. You must complete the admission process separately by submitting your application and supporting documents.

How to Apply and Register for UNISA Student Number: Unisa application

Application for UNISA Student Number applies to the following:

• If you have never studied for a formal qualification at UNISA before, you must apply for a UNISA student number. Student numbers provided by UNISA for short-term learning programs are not transferable to formal qualifications. Your previous UNISA student number will be the same as your permanent UNISA student number.
• Unless you have already studied at UNISA towards a formal qualification, please apply for a UNISA student number if you are applying for admission to a Graduate School of Business Leadership (GSBL) qualification.
• If you have never studied for a formal qualification at Unisa and want to apply for admission to a selection degree, you must first apply for a Unisa student number. You will not be allowed to register for the 2025 academic year if you do not have a proper Unisa student number and are accepted into one of the selection degrees.
• An application for a UNISA student number is not the same as an application for qualification entrance. You must finish the procedure by submitting an application for admission and attaching the required supporting documents.
