The University of South Africa (UNISA) Online Application for Open Distance e-learning (ODeL) in the 2025 academic year is an opportunity for another way of learning from a physical distance between you and UNISA University.
In UNISA’s Open Distance e-Learning, you are responsible for organizing your education and managing your time effectively, placing you in charge of your studies. Unlike traditional education, you won’t attend daily classes; instead, you’ll study remotely and primarily communicate with the institution online.

Distance Learning At UNISA
As an open-distance e-learning university, Unisa and its students have little face-to-face interaction. Nonetheless, the students come first, and they are offered a variety of facilities to help them succeed at Unisa, including libraries, counselling services, regional centres, and student organizations. Unisa provides students with several support services that will help them on their academic journey. The support service includes;
myUNISA: The most essential study tool at Unisa is the online student portal. It’s how you’ll interact with Unisa and how Unisa will interact with you.
myLife E-mail Account: A free myLife e-mail account is provided to all Unisa students. This account receives all important information, notices, and updates. Once your registration is complete, you must activate your myLife e-mail account.
UNISA Distance Learning Application Date 2025
Provided are the application dates for the various qualifications at Unisa application for the 2025 academic year;
- Applications for admission to undergraduate qualifications for the 2025 academic year will open from 21 August to 11 October 2024.
- Applications for admission to honours degrees and postgraduate diplomas for the 2025 academic year will open from 21 August to 11 October 2024.
- Applications for admission to master’s and doctoral degrees for the 2025 academic year are to be open from 2 September to 22 November 2024 (some exceptions apply).
- Application and registration for Unisa’s Short Learning Programmes are open from 14 May to 19 July 2024.

Documents Required for UNISA Distance Learning Application 2025
All applicants should provide the following required supporting documents for their applications:
- Copy of your school qualifications (Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate)
- Copy of your ID document (RSA students) or ID passport (international students)
- Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans
- Copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable)
- Copy of your marriage certificate or divorce decree (if applicable)
How To Apply Online For UNISA Distance Learning 2025
Follow the step-by-step guide below to apply online at UNISA for the 2025 academic year;
- Go to the UNISA Application 2025 website: www.unisa.ac.za and apply online
- At the top menu of the page, click the Admission tab
- Move your cursor down a little and click on the “Apply for Admission” link.
