How Much Is Grade R Course At Unisa: 6 months ECD courses Unisa

The Diploma in Grade R Teaching at Unisa is presented on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) exit Level 6 with a minimum total credits of 360, earned over a minimum of three years. The Department of Higher Education and Training has approved and recognized this diploma, placing the qualification on a REQV 13.

Grade R (also called the Reception Year) is the year of schooling before Grade 1. The Grade R curriculum was first outlined in the Revised National Curriculum Statement R-9 (2002), as part of the Foundation Phase Curriculum.

A diploma in Grade R Teaching has successfully been made available for application in 2025 at Unisa. There hasn’t been any change to the entrance requirements. The qualification’s goal is to elevate the status of practitioners already working in Grade R by allowing them to apply for and get credit for the Bachelor of Education Foundation Phase Teaching, which is the minimal prerequisite for Grade R instructors.

Unisa Grade R Course 2025 Requirements 

To become a Grade R teacher in South Africa, you need to meet the following requirements:

• Senior Certificate OR Grade 12
• 3-year Diploma in Grade R Teaching OR
• 4-year Bachelor of Education: Foundation Phase Teaching (B. Ed. Foundation Phase) OR
• Bachelor’s Degree (other than a B. Ed.) plus a 1-year Post-Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE), specializing in Foundation Phase teaching

How To Apply For Grade R Course At Unisa 2025

Apply online for unisa Grade R, you the information provided below;

• You may apply for a maximum of two qualifications, ranked in order of preference (although you may only register for one should both of your qualifications be successful).
• Unisa will inform you of the outcome of your application. If successful, Unisa will indicate for which qualification you have been accepted and will offer you a space for the period for which you have applied (eg semester 1).
• You must accept or decline Unisa’s offer within the prescribed period. If you miss this deadline, Unisa will withdraw the offer and give your space to another applicant.
• First-time applicants to Unisa will be required to complete the First-Year Experience MOOC (massive open online course) before being able to accept Unisa’s offer.
• You may only accept one offer. This means that when you accept an offer for one qualification (irrespective of whether it is your first or second qualification of choice), the other offer will automatically fall away.
• If you accept Unisa’s offer, you must register for the period for which you have been granted admission. Should you not register for the relevant semester of study, you will need to re-apply for admission during the next application period.
