Senior Phase/FET Access Stream (SPF): This stream is tailored for those aiming to teach at the senior phase or further education and training levels.
This program is a stepping stone for students to advance their education careers. The Foundation Phase and Intermediate Phase qualification (Qualification Code: 90093 – FIP) is an NQF Level 5 program with a total of 120 credits, identified by SAQA ID 101813 and requiring an APS/AS score of 18.

Higher Certificate courses at the Unisa portal for applications into the 2025 academic year open from August 21, 2024, and close on 11th October 2024. Applicants are urged to submit their applications before the closing date as late applications may not be considred for the 2025 academic year.
UNISA Higher Certificate Courses in Education Application Fee 2025
Once you have received your student number from UNISA, you are required to pay an online application fee of R140.00.
Please be aware that this application fee is not refundable, regardless of whether you choose not to enrol in UNISA’s programmes, do not meet the requirements for admission, or are not able to accept an offer due to limited spaces.

UNISA Admission Requirements to Study Higher Certificate Courses in Education for 2025
You must qualify for the exact entrance requirements for the qualification you have chosen to be admitted to UNISA for 2025. Below are the minimum admission requirements for your chosen programme:
- A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with at least 30% in the language of teaching and learning
- A Senior Certificate (SC) with at least an F symbol on HG or an E symbol on SG in the language of teaching and learning
- A National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 with an equivalent of at least 40% in the language of teaching and learning in terms of the NSC.
Note: The Higher Certificate in Education is not a Professional Teaching Qualification.
