This certification aims to meet the requirements of three categories of teachers:

  • Teachers who desire to focus on teaching mathematics and English (FAL) but who have not previously completed a professional teaching degree in either of those subjects (retraining).
  • Teachers who want to focus more on teaching English and mathematics (FAL) during the Intermediate phase.
  • Teachers who completed a National Professional Diploma in Education at NQF Level 5 (or an initial three-year Diploma in Education from the old College of Education) (upgrading).

Students who do not meet all the admission requirements for this qualification should rather consider applying for a BEd degree (if not already professionally qualified).
