The minimum requirement that an applicant needs to apply to pursue a career in nursing at Unisa includes passing Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Biology.

Unisa Bachelor of Arts in Nursing Science Rules:

Students must, with every registration for the BA (CUR), submit their Annual Practising Certificate (issued by the South African Nursing Council (SANC) or Nursing Authority in the relevant country), indicating registration as a general nurse and a midwife. Students who are not registered as a midwife may only register for BA (CUR)-HHS.

Neither an enrolled nurse nor an auxiliary nurse may register for this qualification. ENN103F has been replaced by ENG1503, students who have already passed ENN103F may not register for ENG1503.

The Purpose Of  Unisa Bachelor of Arts in Nursing Science

The purpose of this qualification is to help students to acquire skills, knowledge and experience to: solve problems in a professional communication context by working in a team and individually, managing administration, including financial administration, providing organisational support in a communications environment, and exercise ethical conduct, values and professionalism when dealing with clients.

Qualifying students can therefore contribute to effective organisational communication and the quality of communication in the public and private spheres. This qualification will be presented via distance learning mode.

Who Can Register For Unisa Nursing?

  • Applicants may only register once they have received confirmation from Unisa that their application for admission has been accepted. Unisa reserves the right to not process and/or cancel your registration if it is found that you were incorrectly admitted to a qualification. Admission to the alternative qualification is not automatic. It will depend on whether you comply with admission requirements and if space is available.
  • Re-registering students may register for the 2024 academic year once the registration period opens.

How To Choose A Nursing At Unisa Modules

Each Unisa qualification is structured in such a way that you need to pass a certain number of NQF-level credits within a certain amount of time in order to graduate.

  • Co-requisite: Module A is a co-requisite for Module B. You want to register for Module B, but have not yet passed Module A. You must then register for both Modules A and B simultaneously. You may NOT cancel your registration for Module A unless Module B is also cancelled.
  • Pre-requisite: If Module A is a pre-requisite for Module B, you must pass Module A before you may register for Module B.

What Are The  Admission Requirements For Nursing At UNISA?

You may not register for more than the allowed maximum number of credits/modules per academic year and/or semester: 60 credits per semester or 120 credits per academic year.

The maximum number of credits does not include supplementary and/or aegrotat examinations from a previous semester. Modules taken for non-degree / non-diploma purposes also count towards the maximum number of credits allowed.

You must take your available time into consideration when choosing your modules, as this will impact your academic performance. You need approximately

  • 6 to 8 hours per week for semester modules.
  • 4 to 6 hours per week for year modules.

Unisa Nursing Requirements 2024

Below are the minimum admission requirements for any applicant who wishes to study nursing at Unisa for 2024:

  • Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Biology are recommended for Matriculation studies.
  • Candidates will be admitted to the program if they have completed level 4 or literacy level 5 in mathematics, level 4 in physical science, and level 4 in life science.
  • Clinical training will take place at general and midwifery hospitals, mental hospitals, the community, and community health service facilities in the province in question.
