What Is N5 Higher Certificate Qualification

The NQF Qualification stands for National Qualifications Framework. This system is used to determine which level of qualification or qualifications students have achieved. The higher your NQF Level, the Higher your Qualification. This certificate signifies that students have completed the second stage of higher education in their technical or vocational field.

N5 Qualification can also be called Level 5 or a Higher Certificate. Students receive a Higher Certificate once they have completed a Higher Certificate programme at a higher institution. There are levels in NQ certificates ranging from 1-10, 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest. The different levels represent the different levels of education and the different qualifications achieved by the person.
N5 is one level above N4 and below N6 in the TVET college system. This usually takes about one semester (approximately six months) to complete, following the N4 level.

The main purpose of the NQF is to ensure that each student has the opportunity to enhance their personal development by progressing from one NQF level to the next. Its key objectives include addressing the historically unfair treatment in education, training, and employment opportunities for people of colour and females; creating a unified system that determines qualification levels; improving the quality of education; and ensuring equal access to educational resources for everyone, regardless of race, educational background, gender, status, or location.
