UNISA Higher Certificate in Accounting Sciences: Bachelor of Accounting science Unisa

The University of South Africa (UNISA) Online Application for Higher certificate courses in 2025-2026 is open. All those who wish to study at UNISA must apply for Admission Online 2025.

The Unisa Higher Certificate in Accounting Sciences is a one-year entry-level qualification designed to provide foundational knowledge and skills in accounting, serving as a stepping stone for further studies or entry-level careers in the accounting field. It is ideal for candidates interested in pursuing a career in accounting sciences but who are uncertain about which specific discipline within the field—such as financial accounting, management accounting, auditing (including internal auditing), or taxation—most appeals to them.

Higher Certificate in Accounting Sciences At Unisa Curriculum

Group A: Compulsory Modules

  • AUE1501 – Introduction to Auditing
  • BNU1501 – Basic Numeracy
  • CAS1501 – Perspectives on Accountancy
  • CLA1503 – Commercial Law IC
  • ENN1504 – Practising Workplace English
  • FAC1501 – Introductory Financial Accounting
  • FAC1502 – Financial Accounting Principles, Concepts, and Procedures
  • MAC1501 – Introduction to Management Accounting
  • MNB1501 – Business Management IA
  • TAX1501 – Taxation of Salaried Persons

Admission Requirements to Apply for UNISA Higher Certificate in Accounting Sciences

To gain admission to UNISA, it is required that you meet the specific admission requirements for your chosen qualification.

  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with at least 30% in the language of teaching and learning,
  • A Senior Certificate (SC) with at least an F symbol on HG or an E symbol on SG in the language of teaching and learning,
  • A National Certificate (Vocational) with at least 40% in the language of teaching and learning and where the completed vocational subjects are from the field of Business, Commerce, and Management Studies.

UNISA Higher Certificate in Accounting Sciences Application Fee

All applicants must pay the online application fee of R140 once they have received their student number:

Use the student number you receive from Unisa AND the application fee reference number (ie STUDENT NUMBER 5370810030)
Send the proof of payment to susdepid@unisa.ac.za. Please visit www.unisa.ac.za/paymentinfo for banking details and payment information.

Please note that this application fee is not refundable regardless of whether you decide not to study at Unisa, do not qualify for admission to Unisa, or are unable to be awarded a spot due to space constraints.

How to Apply for UNISA Higher Certificate in Accounting Sciences

If you want to apply for UNISA Higher Certificate courses, follow the step-by-step below:

  • Go to UNISA Application page at www.unisa.ac.za
  • Click on “Apply” at the top-right menu of the page
  • Under the Undergraduate qualification, click on either (First-time applicants/Returning students)
  • Read carefully, the instructions on the page and proceed with your application
  • Click on “Start the process” if you are a first-time applicant or select your qualification if you are a returning student
  • Proceed to complete your application process
  • Submit your application online for evaluation.

Required Documents To Apply at Unisa for Higher Certificate Courses

The following documents are required to apply online at Unisa;

  • Copy of your school qualifications (eg Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate)
  • Copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable) (internet copies will not be accepted)
  • Copy of your ID document (RSA students) or ID/passport (international students)
  • Copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable)
  • Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans
