Can I Teach With A Diploma In Education At Unisa: Diploma in teaching at Unisa

Unisa will be offering an Advanced Diploma in Education in Intermediate Phase Mathematics Teaching from 2025. The primary purpose of the Advanced Diploma is to enable teachers to deepen their subject content knowledge related to teaching school mathematics. Interested students are strongly advised that Mathematics up to second-year level (NQF 6) will be highly beneficial.

A diploma in education is a qualification that is usually awarded through a technical or vocational school. This qualification in education usually takes about 18 months to acquire while a degree is usually studied over four years. A diploma in teaching will often allow you to specialize in a certain field of teaching.

The Unisa diploma in Education is an NQF level 7 qualification designed to fulfil a recognized need to provide a well-rounded, broad education that equips in-service teachers with the subject content knowledge base, pedagogical theory and methodology that will enable them to demonstrate competence and responsibility as academics and professionals.

A diploma in Grade R Teaching will allow you to teach Grade R children only. This means that if you do not have the time or funds to take a full degree in teaching, a diploma might be the right path for you.
