Admission Requirements For Unisa Courses 2025
Unisa Admission requirements are the criteria or qualifications that prospective students must meet to be eligible for entry into a particular academic program. However, below are the admission requirements to study courses at the University of South Africa;
Diploma Qualifications in Engineering
To be admitted into the Diploma in Engineering program, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Diploma Endorsement:
- A minimum rating of 4 in Mathematics or Technical Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy), English, Physical Science or Technical Science.
- Alternatively, N4 Mathematics and Engineering Science with a minimum mark of 50%.
Senior Certificate:
- Mathematics, Physical Science, and English with at least a D symbol in Higher Grade or C symbol on Standard Grade.
- Alternatively, N4 Mathematics and Engineering Science with a minimum mark of 50%.
National Certificate (Vocational) (NC(V)) with Diploma Endorsement:
- English, Mathematics, and Engineering Science with a minimum mark of 50%.
Higher Certificate in a Relevant Field:
- A Higher Certificate in a related field is also acceptable.
Applicants who do not meet these criteria should consider applying for a lower-level qualification for which they meet the statutory and additional requirements.
Higher Certificate Qualifications
To qualify for a Higher Certificate, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- National Senior Certificate (NSC):
- At least 30% in the language of instruction.
- At least 40% in Mathematics.
Senior Certificate:
- At least 30% in the language of instruction.
- At least 40% in Mathematics.
National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4:
- At least 30% in the language of instruction.
- At least 40% in Mathematics.
Diploma in Information Technology
To be admitted to the Diploma in Information Technology, applicants must meet the following:
National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Diploma Endorsement:
- At least 50% in the language of instruction.
- At least 50% in Mathematics or N4 Mathematics with a minimum of 50%.
- N4 English, N4 Communication, or N4 Communication Technology with at least 50%.
Senior Certificate (SC):
- At least a D symbol on a Higher Grade or a C symbol on a Standard Grade in the language of instruction.
- At least a D symbol in a Higher Grade or a C symbol in a Standard Grade in Mathematics.
- At least a D symbol in a Higher Grade or a C symbol in a Standard Grade in Physical Science if the curriculum includes Physics or Chemistry.
- Alternatively, N4 Mathematics with a minimum of 50% and N4 English, N4 Communication, or N4 Communication Technology with at least 50%.
To qualify for diploma qualifications, students must comply with all admission requirements, including a minimum APS of 18, and must be eligible for admission into diploma studies. Applicants who do not meet these requirements should consider applying for a lower-level qualification for which they meet the statutory and additional requirements.
Advanced Diploma in Engineering
To be eligible for the Advanced Diploma in Engineering, you must have completed one of the following:
- A National Diploma in Engineering at NQF Level 6 in the relevant field.
- A 360-credit Diploma in Engineering at NQF Level 6 in the relevant field.
- An Advanced Certificate in Engineering Practice in a relevant field at NQF Level 6 from an accredited higher education provider.
- A national or international equivalent qualification at NQF Level 6 in the appropriate field.
Honours Degrees
- To qualify for an Honours degree, you must hold an appropriate NQF Level 7 qualification from an accredited higher education provider, with a minimum of 60% for the major(s) or for a selected number of NQF Level 7 modules within the qualification.
Advanced Diploma in Information Resource Management
Eligibility for the Advanced Diploma in Information Resource Management requires one of the following:
- An appropriate Diploma, National Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree in IT or an ICT-related field at NQF Level 6 from an accredited higher education provider.
- Alternatively, a minimum of 60% in completed coursework that satisfies the vocational requirement of the Advanced Diploma qualification.
Master’s Degrees
To be admitted to a Master’s degree program, you need:
- An Honours degree, postgraduate diploma, or a 4-year Bachelor of Science degree in the related field, with an average of at least 60%.
- Contact the relevant academic department to confirm the availability of a supervisor before applying for admission.
- If you have not completed a module in research methodology, you may be required to do so before your Master’s degree proposal is considered.
Doctoral Degrees
- To be eligible for a Doctoral degree, you must have an appropriate Master’s degree. Contact the relevant academic department to confirm the availability of a supervisor before applying for admission.
NOTE: Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to Unisa, as the University can only accept a limited number of students per qualification.
