Unisa generally permits students up to three attempts to pass a module. If a student does not pass after these attempts, they may need to seek special permission to re-register for the module or explore alternative options, such as switching to a different module or program.
If you are not prepared to take a supplementary examination or if it’s not available, you can re-register for the module in the following academic year, which requires paying the full module fee again.
University of South Africa Students will not be able to register more than 60 NQF credits in a semester, that is, not more than 5 modules per semester of 12 credits each. This does not include supplementary and/or aegrotat examinations which you may have been given in a previous academic year.
In the first year of study at Unisa, you must pass one module of 12 credits during the first semester and two modules of 12 credits each during the second semester. Failure to pass the required number of modules will result in your inability to study further at the undergraduate level. A student wishing to be re-admitted to Unisa after being excluded based on poor performance in qualification may only do so after providing proof of successful completion of a one-year certificate programme at NQF level 4, 5 or higher (with 48 credits) at another accredited institution or a Unisa short learning programme.
